Dark, sulky production looms over the new track from Erich Mrak & Maurice Moore. The lyrical content from Mrak is very close and personal as he drowns his emotions with the bottle. Maurice handles the hook with an elegant falsetto that is reminiscent of Abel Tesfaye ( theWeeknd ). Don’t be mistaken, Maurice Moore definitely adds his original sound, as the chorus flows in and out of rapping and singing. The distortion effects added make for a gritty and scratched image portrayed to translate directly to emotion.
Produced by Bento, a producer familiarly working with Erich Mrak, does a fantastic job with control & mix of the overall song; bringing parts to life and dying others down. After releasing his debut EP, “V”, at the beginning of 2016 (which can be found via his SoundCloud page), Erich returns with a more conscious sided song titled “Drowning Out”. Featuring Maurice Moore (Kehlani’s latest TSNMI signee), and produced by Erich’s main producer, Bento, “Drowning Out” showcases a vulnerable side of Erich, as the content of the song centres around his own personal stories about drinking, and driving.
