OvO Sound Artist PARTYNEXTDOOR Delivers His 3rd Installment ‘P3‘ & I Gave It A 6/10
Mississauga native Jahron Brathwaite aka PARTYNEXTDOOR, is the talk of the town with his latest release P3. The third full-length project from the Sauga City kid is very well done. Production is crisp & great utilization of effects. The sensual tone that Party sets is pretty consistent throughout the body of work.
Handling mostly all the production and crafting of his sound, PARTYNEXTDOOR is a talented young artist. Having the OVO team behind him only drives him to come up with new, melodically creative ideas. There are a few tracks on this project that felt ‘stale‘ to the ear, which is why I chose the rating I did. It may be a bit harsh, but I was basing it on the first PND we heard. The mysterious, experimental production just sits better with his voice IMO. Nevertheless, this is a great album that is definitely worth a listen.
I commend PARTYNEXTDOOR for stepping outside the box and experimenting with major key sounds like in Joy. The overall tempo doesn’t shift too much, other than the Dancehall stylized tracks early on the project. Very moody, crooning half-tempo songs with balanced levels is the overall feel. Keeping most of the work in-house, & features to a minimal; Party recruits fellow OVOSOUND associates Drake & Majid Al Maskati (Majid Jordan). Other than that, the lime-light shines on PND alone.
The album does get a bit repetitive. Making the entire album mesh extremely well is one of the positive side-effects. I feel like a handful of these songs sound just ‘sketched-out‘ and unfinished. They could have been easily released on a mixtape platform. Nevertheless, I full enjoy the album.
